Hail The Moon!
About this artwork
What is it about the moon? We all love it when it's full, or eclipsed, crescent or red .. for me it is a reminder of how tiny we are within this vast universe. When I am down on the rocks, I often see the crabs scuttling about, and one day I was there when the full moon rose in a pink sky over the sea. I thought to myself Hail, the Moon! I thought of sun sign of Cancer, and the crab ..and as I watched the waves crashing together, I also saw what looked like a figure with arms outstretched as if she was presenting the scene. I came home and began to paint. I painted two versions - a small one which was sold before I had time to upload it anywhere, and this much larger one, which has taken many weeks to complete. The moon appears a lot in my work, and I've come to recognise it is because it fills me with wonder, and that's a nice thing to feel.
