About this artwork
Named after Old Regret the mother of the horse used in the poem The Man from Snowy River by Banjo Paterson. The word Old Regret brings to mind strength, pedigree and rich farm land. An interesting name used by Paterson, the horse was actually a famous American race mare, the first female horse to ever win the Kentucky Derby. I’m transgressing, back to the painting.
It is inspired by the colours of the Australian countryside, forming part of a new sophisticated collection of abstract landscapes, using rich deep greens, earthy browns and warm ochre’s, with a splash of blue to symbolise our rivers, dams and blue sky’s. Using a birds eye view point and a textured canvas, connections are made between colours and lines.
Deep earthy colours of high pigment acrylic paint on canvas, framed in a light coloured raw wood floating frame.
