Peach and Jasmine ( Reduction linocut print)
About this artwork
This is a reduction Lino-cut print. It has been made by hand using the reduction process.
This means that i carve away the plate, then roll the ink on the plate and then hand roll the plate and paper through a press. I did this each time for each 11 prints. Then I carved the areas that i wanted to remain the previous colour and the inked the plate and printed and inked each of the 11 sheets of paper again. and so on until the final colour. by then the plate has been carved away except for the area for the final colour. this process besides being labor intensive, also means that only those papers in the edition can be printed from that plate.
my edition is also varied, as i use small rollers to selectively ink areas, this means that it also makes each print unique as no two are identically inked.
The design is based on Jasmine and peach flowers.
a variable edition reduction linocut of just 11.
I used Akua intaglio inks and relief printed onto Fabriano Rosapina papers. Edges are hand torn.
