Gregory Matthews is proud to be a descendant and a Senior Elder of Tasmania’s Manegin People, a clan member of the North West Nation.
As a child, Greg felt an innate connection to the bush and nature, and remembers his grandfather and uncles imparting to him many useful bush survival skills.
Greg also recalls his Elders talking privately & naming his family’s Aboriginal ancestors, but at the time it was considered shameful to openly admit ones Aboriginality.
It was later in Greg’s life that he fully understood his Indigenous heritage, and the trauma that his family had endured.
Greg’s painting stories are derived from his own research & life experiences, his traditional Manegin Tribal Laws & Customs that have been passed on to him, and his numerous visits to his Manegin ancestors country,
Greg has developed his own unique contemporary Aboriginal art style, his art is displayed in Melbourne & Hobart galleries, and in commercial premises in both Sydney & Melbourne. Greg’s art has been sold Australia wide & internationally. Greg has achieved local recognition and has won Awards for his art. Greg’s studio is located in Cranbourne North, Victoria
Greg loves his art, and to tell his stories, and apart from selling his art to collectors; Greg’s main aim is to advance Australian Aboriginal Art, culture, and awareness.
All paintings and prints thereof are produced by Greg Matthews; they are original; and are supplied with a signed Certificate that incorporates both a statutory declaration of Greg’s Aboriginal heritage; and a Certificate of Authenticity for the purchased painting and/or print.
Greg would be pleased to accept commissions to suit your particular size , design and decor.
